Nikka’s distillery is between the most famous distilleries in Japan. Masataka Taketsuru, its founder, is one of the legends of Japanese whisky and played a fundamental part in the origins of Japanese whisky production. For decades, Nikka’s distillery proved making high quality whiskies to their appreciators. Nikka Miyagikyo 12 years is no exception.

 

Nikka’s Distillery

Taketsuru was the first Japanese man to bring the secrets of whisky production from Scotland. His family already had a rice distillery factory that produced sake. However, Taketsuru passion was scotch whisky and so he adventured in a long journey to the UK. He studied the art of whisky making in Glasgow University and even worked as apprentice with several blended whisky masters at the time. After two years returned to Japan with the necessary knowledge to produce high quality whisky in his country.

 

Initially worked at Suntory’s and later he opened his own distillery, in Yoichi. Nikka’s distillery always focused in producing high quality whisky instead of large quantity. This attitude allowed this distillery to become one of the major icons of Japanese whisky these days.

The whisky Nikka Miyagikyo aged 12 years is a single malt with a strong amber color and unique and interesting features.

 

Flavours and Aromas

This Japanese whisky has a floral aroma evolving to oriental spices. IT can be felt the aroma of chestnuts and roasted coffee.

As for its flavours, Nikka Miyagikyo 12 years is very rich, with a soft beginning and a taste of coffee, chocolate and sherry. The ending is long and warm, quite pleasant.
