Nikka Coffey Malt Whisky – japanese whisky
Nikka distillery is one of the most emblematic distilleries of Japanese whisky. You can find plenty of options in its repertoire, all of them with great quality.
Nikka’s japanese whisky
It is impossible to talk about Japanese whisky without mention Suntory or Nikka. These two distilleries are responsible for the origin of Japanese whisky. Nowadays Japan is considered to be one of the most exciting and innovative whisky producers, and it has plenty to thank to these two distilleries. Nikka’s story is linked to Suntory’s distillery. As we talked about on this blog in the past, Masataka Taketsuru, the founder of Nikka’s started by working as production director of whisky at Suntory’s. When he founded his own distillery, he made sure that quality was a core value of the brand, even though many times had to sacrifice quantity, in order to being able to produce the best Japanese whisky possible.
Nikka Coffey Malt Whisky
But today we want to talk about one of the expressions in Nikka’s repertoire: the Nikka Coffey Malt Whisky.
This japanese whiskey uses a Coffey still which allowed the brand to produce more quantities without increasing too much the costs.
The Nikka Coffey Malt expression primes for its originality. It stands out for not following the most traditional production techniques. Therefore, the personality of this whisky is very unique and it is based on the way it is distillated.
The malt barley is distillated with a methodology more frequently used for the grain whisky production, the “Coffey Still”. This means instead of being made from wheat as traditionally bend whiskies are, this one is made predominantly from corn. The result is quite interesting.
It presents a more generous flavour and is more aromatic, with fresh and clean aromas. The flavour is spicy with a bit of a citrus freshness and the finnish is harmonious.
This Japanese whisky is especially suited for those who truly enjoy this beverage and like to enjoy new and different flavours. With an extraordinary texture, the Nikka Coffey Malt whisky offer that possibility to whisky lovers.
