Ballantine’s: One of the finest blended scotch whiskeys

Ballantine’s is a brand from Dumbarton, Scotland, that distills blended scotch whiskeys. The brand produces one of the most popular scotch whiskeys in the world and ranks as one of the most selling whiskeys in the south of Europe.

The history of Ballantine’s

The Scottish brand was introduced by George Ballantine in 1827. The Scotsman, who was the son of a farmer started with selling whiskeys in a small shop in Edinburgh. It was mainly his second son George junior, who started to created his own blends. Ballantine´s started cooperating with the Canadian company Gooderham &
Worts in 1937 and gained international popularity shortly after. It was just in the 1960s that the company started exploring the European market. In the 1980s scotch was on the rise and so was Ballantine’s. Since 2005 the company is part of the French group Pernod Ricard, that owns various whiskey brands.

 

Curious facts

In the 180-year-history the Scottish brand had just five master blenders. The current master blender is the Scotsman Sandy Hyslop, who created his first dram back in 1983.

The scotch brand offers a great variety of different expressions, that make an awesome whiskey gift for Christmas or for another special occasion. They also add a hint of flavor to every whiskey tasting!

 

Ballantine’s Finest

A smooth scotch, blended out of more than 50 single malts. Warm nose with aromas of toffee, smokey wood and sugar. The flavor is rich, full-bodied and comes with sweet notes of caramel and a hint of peat. The finish is sweet and reminds of fudge and toffee. Interesting: The whiskey was Jim Murrays No Age Statement Blend of the Year and received 96 points!

 

Ballantine’s 12 year old

A refreshing scotch, that mainly consist out of whiskeys from Miltonduff and Glenburgie. The scotch has a fresh nose, that contains aromas of fruits and assorted nuts.  The flavor is smooth, creamy and tastes like spices, butter and coffee. Fruits and soft spices also dominate the aftertaste.

 

Ballantine’s 30 year old

The whiskey has a soft nose, that surprises you with honey, wood and some smokey notes. Flowers, fruit cake, fresh butter and woody notes define the whiskey’s elegant taste. It comes with a long finish, that pleases you with a spicy and warm aftertaste. The extraordinary blend won several prices and received 92 from Jim Murray.
